Carpet Cleaning & Upkeep: Pro Tips for Longer Use

A good carpet can last for many years with proper cleaning and maintenance!

Many people throw away carpets because of issues like "shedding, stains, and deformation," but in fact, most of these problems can be avoided with simple methods (suitable for all common materials):

Daily Maintenance (5 minutes a day, to prevent bigger issues)

Vacuum regularly: 1-2 times a week (use the soft brush head for wool carpets to avoid damaging the pile); for high-traffic areas, vacuum every 2-3 days (removes dust and prevents accumulation, which can harden the pile).

Avoid long-term pressure: Move furniture around on the carpet regularly (e.g., sofa, coffee table) to prevent permanent indentations. If indentations do appear, iron the back with a low-temperature steam iron, then flip the carpet and tap gently.

Prevent color fading: Avoid long-term direct sunlight (use curtains or blinds). If the carpet is exposed to the sun, flip it regularly to ensure even color.

Stain Removal (Quick response is key-no need for professional cleaning)

Liquid stains (water, juice, coffee): Blot the stain with a dry towel immediately (do not rub! Rubbing will spread the stain and damage the pile), then spray a small amount of diluted neutral detergent, blot again with a dry towel, and let air dry naturally.

Solid stains (food, dust): Scrape off the solid part with a plastic scraper (avoid using metal tools that can scratch the carpet), then vacuum and wipe with a damp towel if necessary.

Pet urine: Blot up immediately, then spray a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:1). Let it sit for 5 minutes, blot with a dry towel, and let air dry (white vinegar helps remove odor and prevents yellowing).

Deep Cleaning (1-2 times a year, depending on usage)

Small carpets (≤1.5㎡): Machine wash with neutral detergent (gentle mode, cold water), air dry naturally (do not tumble dry to avoid deformation).

Large carpets (>1.5㎡): Use a carpet cleaning machine (spray neutral detergent + suction) or hire professional cleaners (for wool/hand-knotted high-end carpets, professional cleaning is recommended).

Important Note: Do not use bleach or strong alkaline detergents on any carpet (they can fade and damage the material); jute/sisal carpets should not be soaked in water (wipe with a damp towel only to prevent mildew).
